No we’ve not be delving into the US conspiracy archives, we really mean it, the satellites are coming! Well for PR.D we see them coming. What we mean is there is a rise in a new way of working or at least a new way of defining how we work. Needs & demands of businesses young and old are forever changing and reacting to market conditions, but one thing is for sure the demand for technical support by those who do not immediately have access does not change, but that doesn’t mean we should be afraid to think differently. For us at its core satellite simply means remote or offsite, but what it demands is a function, a team, department, body that although operates externally is a true extension of your business. Not some consultancy that asks you to fill in a form before they disappear for 6 months to build your idea.
Satellites run the programme, consume the strategy and push the agenda.
Satellites are defined as an object that remains in orbit around a body, constantly gathering information and communicating for a purpose. It is the persistence of a satellite model that underlines the true identity of a satellite which by comparison would be a consultancy or agency that would check in at various milestones and host a kick off workshop or 2. Satellites run the programme, consume the strategy and push the agenda. Organisations and startups need far more than technical resource, they need an embedded partner that gets what they get and sees what they see.
By introducing a satellite function to partner with you on your next strategic project or ground up app venture you should ask yourself does this team feel like they could fit the culture of your business, do they get the strategic direction that you wish to move in? A true satellite function will. Building up a business, is as much a part of building the product or project, Satellites get this, they get that theres a life beyond the allocated 6/12/18 months, they’re passionate about identifying further opportunities and market value but also don’t jump on the yes bandwagon in order to simply appease the client. Like all good interdepartmental relationships within any business, there should be healthy challenges, critical thinking and an element of self interest which remains at the root of any high performing organisation.
Satellites are present, embedded and accountable anything else is just pretend.
